Optical characteristics of transparent and opaque materials – influence of the particle size

The ability of matter, to transmit light waves, is specified as transparency. If “something positioned behind something” can be relatively clearly recognizable, normally the material is considered transparent or lucent like in the case of window glass. This is the case for most gaseous, as well as many liquids substances and some solid materials.

Low temperature synthesis of porous silicate ceramics

Impregnation of a polyurethane sponge with kaolin, feldspar, silica, fusible glass slurry followed by temperature treatment in air in the temperature range 800-10000° C leads to the formation of aluminosilicate ceramics with a set pore size.

Influence of tribomechanical milling and activation of primary mixtures on the synthesis of calcium silicate hydrates

Minerals of the tobermorite group with double [Al3++Na+] substitutions were synthesized using both, non-ground raw mineral mixtures and mixtures ground in a colloidal mill. The synthesis of calcium silicate hydrate is more effective when dry primary mixtures ground in a colloidal mill are taken, because compositions of higher degree of crystallinity are synthesized under the same conditions.
